Race Equality Scheme 2009-2012
Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities comprise many different cultures and backgrounds and have a range of different needs, priorities and aspirations.
The diversity has many positive aspects, such as a supportive family and community networks and often strong ethical, moral and religious values. Equally, members of the BME communities can also feel isolated, at risk of social exclusion and vulnerable to hate crime.
In recognition of the challenges faced by BME communities Tower Hamlets and EastendHomes has adopted a strategy which aims to address these issues. We believe that involvement and consultation with the local community, together with a partnership approach with Tower Hamlets Council and other local agencies, is the best way to address these challenges and achieve the objectives of our Race Equality Scheme.
