Tower Hamlets Council Waste Service Staff Strike

As you may have heard, Tower Hamlets Council frontline waste service workers and street cleaners will be going on strike from 18 September to 1 October 2023 due to a national pay dispute.

The strike will seriously impact collections and cleaning across the borough - whilst the Council press statement states that they will be reallocating staff who are not participating in strike action and doing everything they can to maintain a level of service for residents throughout the strike, we have had to take a number of measures in an attempt to minimise the impact, as very quickly next week the paladin bins will be full to capacity.

SKIPS

We have arranged for skips to be delivered on Monday 18 September to various locations on our estates where this is possible.

  • These are intended for all household refuse ONLY.
  • Please do not put bulk items – furniture / mattresses etc. into the skips.
  • If you can, please dispose of your household refuse in tied bags into the skips rather than using the paladin bins and/or the chute hopper as these will quickly become blocked.
  • As always please do not leave your rubbish outside bin stores or any communal area on the estate you live as this only encourages vermin/foxes

RECYCLING

If you have transport you are able to visit the Council’s Reuse and Recycling Centre at Yabsley Street  E14 9RG. The depot details are at:

TOWER BLOCKS

Because of the fire risk in high-rise blocks we have engaged the services of a waste disposal company to maintain the collection services for this period but again would ask residents living in tower blocks not to leave any form of rubbish/furniture etc in communal areas.

Over the next two weeks the caretaking team’s priority will be to focus on keeping the bin areas as clear as possible and you can assist us by taking the measures above.
