A recent photo of  Marie Millea with her two children taken at one of EastendHome's community events has won the Chartered Institute of Housing's (CIH)  Big Picture Award.

The photo captured the little ones,  twins Ava and Jacob,   enjoying their first ever panto at EastendHome's Southern Grove Community Centre.  It was chosen from over 120 entries to be one of the seven winners announced on the 31 January

The competition was open to housing associations across the UK and celebrates the value of housing and the CIH's hundredth year.

The CIH judges were blown away by the tender shot of the tots and their mum.  They commented:

"The faces of the two young children in this photograph are enough to melt anyones hearts. We particularly liked the message this gives about the ongoing value of housing across generations.  We also liked the fact that the community centre in the picture is itself the product of the work of a housing organisation and highlights the value of housing beyond the bricks and mortar of homes.”

Marie and her little ones  aged 8 months are Tower Hamlets residents and live on St George's Estate in Shadwell.   She said when hearing about the win:

"I'm glad the photo was liked by so many.  The day was amazing. The way everyone worked together, the ease of everything. The photo sums up how happy we all  felt.

EastendHomes is a local housing association that values and supports resident involvement.  Last year it  invested £270, 000  into community services.    The award winning  photo was taken by Kois Miah.
