Private Landlord Licensing Scheme to start in west of Tower Hamlets

Tower Hamlets Council has decided that from 1st October 2016 a selective licensing scheme for private landlords renting to tenants will be introduced in three wards:

  • Spitalfields and Banglatown - this will affect residents of the Holland estate
  • Weavers
  • Whitechapel (pre-2014 boundaries)

This will mean that private landlords must obtain a licence from the council before a property can be rented out to a tenant.

The council has a page on its website with full details of how the scheme will operate.

This will affect EastendHomes leaseholders who wish to let out their property to a sub-tenant. Leaseholders are reminded that they are also asked to inform EastendHomes if they intend to sub-let their home. If you have a mortgage secured on the property, you may also require agreement from the lender.
