Affordable Housing - A Rent Setting Policy that works for local people

The EastendHomes Board has recently agreed our revised Rent Setting Policy to include a provision stating we do not intend to pursue the ‘Pay to Stay’ initiative, supporting our commitment to provide genuinely affordable homes for local people. The policy also reaffirms our commitment to ‘lifetime tenancies’ at social rents.

A recent review of properties available on the Tower Hamlets Common Housing Register showed that 41% of available homes were advertised as fixed term tenancies for as little as 5 years, whilst 39% were being offered at so-called ‘Affordable Rents’ of up to 80% of the market rent. However EastendHomes Board has taken the decision not to pursue either of these policies.
