Residents warned of bogus rehousing website

Residents are warned of a shameless attempt to profit from the shortage of affordable housing in the borough from a bogus website which claims to offer aid in moving out of overcrowded properties.

The fake service, known as 'Tower Hamlets Over Crowding Aid', is delivering flyers to properties in Tower Hamlets, and encouraging people to pay £30 via a website - which we are not going to give the address of here.

Despite claiming to act on behalf of the Council, we must emphasise that they are not acting in any official capacity and will not be able to help you move. You should not pay any money to this organisation nor provide any personal details, which may expose you to the risk of further fraud. The council’s anti-fraud and trading standards teams are working with the Police to investigate this fraud and to shut it down. If you have received a flyer, please contact the council’s trading standards team on 020 7364 5008 or email trading.standards@towerhamlets.gov.uk.
