EastendHomes Regeneration Programme

EastendHomes is not only on target to meet the Government Decent Homes standard by 2010, we want to see our neighbourhoods transformed over the next few years. Over half our properties now meet the Governments Decent Homes standard. So far tenants on the Mile End Estates, Island Gardens, West Ferry, and St George’s estates have benefited from over £12 million of investment in over 700 new kitchens, bathrooms and front doors.

In the next four years EastendHomes intends to invest another £73 million in transforming all our estates.

The last year saw EastendHomes partnership with Telford Homes continuing to grow. Over the coming years this partnership will produce new homes for rent and sale while generating investment for local residents. On the British Estate at Mile End this has allowed an individual estate investment programme’ to be undertaken  by one of our partner contactors, Apollo in Partnership of over £17 million to get underway .

EastendHomes pledge to provide community facilities for residents is being turned into reality on the British Estate.  The partnership with Telford Homes will uniquely provide both community/cultural facilities and provide income to help run the facilities.

The EastendHomes Community Fund, goes from strength to strength supported by our partners, and has provided much needed resources to fund a range of valuable community activities for everyone.

We have continued our work on the Westferry, Island Gardens and St Georges estates where we anticipate investing nearly £50 million in the next four years. Part of that investment includes the installation of cutting edge gas saving technology Zenex Energy designed to cut residents fuel bills, and micro wind turbines to reduce CO2 emissions.

In November 2006 the Holland estate joined EastendHomes and we are now on site installing kitchens and bathrooms. We are also working closely with residents to implement a £23 million neighbourhood renewal investment programme.

The newest member of the EastendHomes family, the Glamis Estate joined EastendHomes in October 2007 where we are on site installing new kitchens and bathrooms.

In July 2007 EastendHomes started its first ever new build programme. This is a small scheme of 24 units, but will still help provide much needed accommodation. Over the next four years EastendHomes will significantly increase the amount of new homes available for those who need them. In addition we have also been able to bring properties previously thought unsuitable for permanent accommodation back into use.

EastendHomes appreciates the value of partnership working and has worked closely with the Council’s Local Area Partnership LAP 8 in implementing riverside walkway improvements on the Isle of Dogs and to part fund CCTV security works near our local housing office on the Island.

EastendHomes is also very proud to be a participant in the employment initiative Slivers of Time providing support to our residents in identifying pathways into employment.
